“Modern Art” refers to the stylistic changes of progressive art movements beginning around the 1860s and going until around the 1960s, when we begin to refer to art as “Contemporary.”
With such a long timeline, there are MANY different art movements with varying points of view. We’ll look through many of the “isms” including Fauvism,
Cubism, Expressionism, Futurism…you get the idea.

Power of the Poppy - November 11
Power of the Poppy
Poppies have long fascinated artists with their vibrant colors, delicate petals, and of course, the symbolic meanings.
Throughout art history, they have represented life, death, remembrance, and even sleep (opium!).
Nov. 11 is a perfect opportunity to dig into the history of the powerful poppy and create a painting to mark the occasion.
