Summer - Magical Beings: The Art of Terry McCue
Canadian artist Terry McCue was a self-taught Ojibwa painter who spent much his life in First Nations communities, and his connection to them is clear in his work. He is known for large, distinctive, bold works painting the natural world. The animals in his paintings seem almost human and eerily evoke ancestral blurring of the boundaries between human and animal worlds.
We’ll learn about Terry’s influences and paint with his particular perspective in mind.

Ages 9+
Summer - Pop Star Portraits: Expressive Contemporary Portraiture (Ages 12+)
Portraits that have the greatest impact on the viewer are expressive ones, those that evoke feeling. Artists seek to represent the character and psychology of their sitters. We'll we paint our favorite pop stars in the style of those provocative artists that broke with the formal portrait traditions of the past. Think Sabrina à la Elizabeth Peyton or Cowboy Carter in the style of Mickelene Thomas!
We’ll discover how to bring the expressive portrait to life using light, color, and painterly technique.
Just a few of the artists we’ll explore during this session: Alice Neel, Amy Sherald, David Hockney, Mickelene Thomas, Francesco Clemente, Kehinde Wiley, Barkley Hendricks, and Elizabeth Peyton.
July 7 - 10
9:30 - 12:30
Ages 12 +
Summer - The Wild Bunch: The Post-Impressionists!
The term was first used in 1910 by the English art critic Roger Fry who needed a word to describe the group of artists including Paul Gauguin, Paul Cezanne, Georges Seurat, and you guessed it, Vincent Van Gogh.
While French eyes would have been used to these revolutionary artists, to English audiences, they were absolutely radical!! Simply put, Post-Impressionism is a natural extension of Impressionism, borrowing certain elements but embracing more artistic and WILD possibilities than Impressionism ever did.
We’ll explore the world of these brilliant pioneers and paint a few masterpieces of our own.
